Guitar Tuners Locking
Guitar Tuners Locking

What is the best way to keep my guitar in tune?
I've got a Epiphone acoustic that I have begun to play live and I'm having some trouble keeping in tune. I don't want to spend a whole lot of cash on something because it will end up being banged around. Something like some locking tuners??
Personally I think Sperzal's have the best locking tuners, I would go with that. You can purchase them online at http://www.musiciansfriend.com

guitar question?
do locking tuners have benifits on hardtail (without a whammy bar) guitars? im looking to replace the grover tuners on my epi sg with locking tuners. good idea? or should i look for really light but high quality tuners because the guitar is neck heavy? any ideas are appreciated.
thx
First, like everything else, it is a matter of personal taste. So, what I offer is only my humble opinion.
If you have grovers and they are functioning properly, I'd leave them be and save your hard earned money. I've worked with some fine guitarists. One of the best bass players I've ever worked with had locking tuners and he never liked them. Other guitarists have warned me against them.
However, if you must have them, remember that their ability to "lock" at the exact pitch you want is determined by the gear ratio. I understand that Sperzels are probably the smallest and lightest and I think they have the finest ratio, 18/1 or something like that.
I own an Epiphone Les Paul and agree that the Epi tuners leave much to be desired. I replaced mine with Gibson Les Paul standard issue tuners and they hold perfectly.
