What should I do about my guitar?


Okay I have a Epiphone DR 100. I love it. In my opinion it's an amazing guitar, this was also my first acoustic one. I've had it for almost a year (October). I'm concerned about the strings and bridge.

I haven't played my guitar for probably a month? I've been so busy, but today my friend pointed out that the strings feel higher from the fret since the last time she played it. I'm really worried the bridge might rip off or the body of my guitar will be ruined.

What should i do? Should I replace the strings or is it the bridge? Because it's rising up a little below the bridge. And for future what should I do to keep this from happening again? I just wanna make sure because I never had to repair it before.

It's possible that this is a false alarm...all based on your friend's perception that your action is higher than she remembers. How often does she play it?

I'm not sure what you mean by "it's rising up a little below the bridge." If the bridge is actually coming unglued, it's a job for a guitar tech. The Epiphone DR100 is a pretty inexpensive guitar. Paying a guitar tech to make major repairs could easily cost half (or more) of the price you paid for it. OTOH, if the top is just developing a "belly" from the strings pulling on the bridge, this is fairly common and just requires a few adjustments....filing the saddle and/or adjusting the truss rod

The most likely cause of high "action" is that over time you neck has developed a slight forward bow. You can easily check this. Press the lowest string on the first fret and at the 14th fret at the same time. That makes your string into a straight-edge. Check the clearance at the 6th or 7th fret. If there is more than a whisker of distance between the bottom of the string and the fret, your truss rod needs to be tightened. You can decide whether to attempt this yourself or take it to a shop. Without seeing the guitar, it's hard to diagnose and tell you how to prevent future problems. Lighter gauge strings will put less tension on the neck and bridge, but will sacrifice tone and volume. You might loosen the strings if you aren't going to play for long periods, and of course try to maintain steady temp and humidity.

In response to the frequent Islamic demands for apologies and withdrawals, the latest being from the Saudi lawyer Faisal A.Z. Yamani towards Danish newspapers reprinting the Muhammad cartoons, the Danish Peoples' Party now takes aim in the opposite direction.

- I demand an apology for oppression of women, stoning, intimidation of adherents of other beliefs, violation of civil liberties, and not least the extensive contempt for Danish culture and democracy, Danes and Westerners, says social issues spokesman Martin Henriksen, who is seriously weary of Islamic countries and organisations repeatedly demanding Denmark and the Danes to apologize.

- I would like to simply return the ball to their court and demand some apologies from them. We could issue a form letter every time a new incident appears, says Martin Henriksen, who has already drafted such a letter:
