Guitar Strings Knot What if I don't have bridge pins on my acoustic guitar?
I am changing my guitar strings for the first time since I got it 2 years ago, and the strings were at least a decade old.
I recently learned my guitar does not have bridge pins, or pegs as some might call them. It was tied oddly in a classical style at the bottom instead of bridge pins holding them down. I also recently learned that most acoustic guitars today have bridge pins.
I was going to buy new guitar strings, but because of this, I now have to pay Guitar Center to put strings on. I am also worried that the fact it doesn't have bridge pins will either
1. Make them have to add on bridge pins and costing more money for the "repair."
2. They will be able to do it without the bridge pins, but since I can't tie a knot for crap, everytime i need a change, I will have to bring it to them.
What?
You almost certainly have a "classical" guitar that uses nylon strings. Do not attempt to use steel strings on this guitar, it wasn't designed to withstand the greater tension of steel strings. Guitar Center won't make you install bridge pins because those are only for steel strings.
