Medium/Short scale basses?


I am on to my third bass. I have had a long scale and a short scale. I am reasonably small and so have found the short scale alot easier to play plus i find the plunkier sound more suited to my style. I was wondering if anyone could suggest a bass that is available in the u.k , that is either a short scale or medium scale. I would rather have a mainstream brand and my price range would be £150 to £350. Please help, ive been struggling to find a good bass of this description.

1968 Gretsch 6072 Long Scale Bass

question about Gretsch basses?


hi, i just got a Gretsch Electromatic Junior Jet bass. you can check it out here: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Gretsch-Guitars-G2202-Electromatic-Junior-Jet-Bass-Guitar-100602747-i1320394.gc its my first bass.
anyway, i kinda knew it was smaller than other basses, but i never new that it being smaller was bad thing. its a short scale bass, and ive gotten alot of feedback that they aren't as good as a long scale bass. But, i have heard that this particular Gretsch bass is a good one, and can anyone tell me if this bass rivals the sounds of longer basses, or if there really is a problem with it at all? I am a big person though, so would a longer bass be better? i am comfortible with it and i love the style, but i have this nagging feeling that i should get a longer one based on what everyone has been saying about the sound quality and ease of slapping. I also love slapping, would this Gretsch be good for it? I have plenty of time to get a refund, but this bass only cost me $175 ^^

If you have bigger fingers the bigger scale is better. This is an instrument you might want to keep around if you want to get a different sound, but as I found out with mini-sized guitars there is just no substitute for the real deal - go back and get a full-scale bass. There is nothing wrong with short-scale basses if you use them right, but they just don't seem to sound as "full" as the 34" scale basses. Also, if you get used to playing the short-scale bass, switching back to the full-size might be a little difficult for a while.

Could i play a guitar through my bass amp?


I've heard of it being done (most recently by a local Brisbane band called The Dead), but i've also heard it's a bad idea?

I want a new toy, namely a standard (trebble?) guitar, i do preffer bass, but i kind of want a guitar to mess with as well. Would i need a new amp as well? I have a medium sized practice amp, a Peavey 10" 20W "MAX10 bass".

I don't want to spend too much. If i can use that amp with a trebble guitar, i could get a nice little Epiphone SG entry-level or somthing else in that price range. If not, i might just get a cheap little no-name starter kit like my kid-brother has.

the cable at least works for both, right?

Will it sounds at least ok?

and, more improtantly, will i damage anything?

I'm not 100% happy with my current amp, but i'd prefer to get a better bass amp than a guitar amp, bass is more what i'm into.

A bass amp will not offer you the same sounds as an amp made for guitars. It is focused on different frequencies and purpose. You can pick up a cheap guitar amp for $99 or less. also, look for used ones and can find a great deal.

Bass Medium Trinity - Coś Nie Tak

My bass guitar makes a medium loud creak noise?


When i grab the upper horn of the guitar and move it back then forth quickly it makes the creak noise. i fist heard this when i was playing then the bas guitar kinda fell against me and it made that noise. i hav an esp ltd b 50 and there is a 1mm gap between the body and neck where they join. i think this could be the cause of the creak noise but im not sure i need help.

I'm not familiar with that particular bass, but I assume it's a bolt on neck.
Changes in weather,playing technique etc can cause the neck to move. You might take it to a shop and have the neck to body screw tightened up, and maybe have the neck checked for any warpage. A quick truss adjustment willl relieve any stresses that might be contributing to the neck/body joint separating. Won't cost a whole bunch, they will give you an estimate and quote and guarantee the work.............which makes more sense then dinkin' around with it if you're really not sure what your doing!!
Don't forget, all instruments need TUNEUPS once in a while.

I know a lot of guitarists do solo acts, so I was thinking about trying a solo bass act. What do you think?

Go for it man! Bass is such a beautiful instrument. I play bass myself and when i play by myself around a few friends they thing it is wonderful. The thing is, people who don't think it is possible or thing it is to hard is wrong. As long as you play around for a while and find chords that sound good, everything else will come into play. Just get in touch with your creative side, find something that inspires you and just play, don't even think about it and it will sound good.
