Alice Electric Guitar electric vs acoustic guitar?
im 15 and about to get my first guitar i like grunge music like alice in chains and nirvana my mom says i should learn on an acoustic then go 2 electric now aic and nirvana have unplugged virsion of their songs (all acoustic) so i could learn that and whats the difffernce between nylon and steel string what do u think i should get. electric sounds eaiser but u have to mute strings and u need an amp and all of that acoustic u dont plz help me decide. and if u can can u tell me what strings r these its the guitar played by the guy with long hair http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEUmTDamjB0 thxs and if u do look and the video its a guild
Get steel strings, the sound is different and for what you're going for based off the bands you listed steel will produce it.
Acoustics can operate much like an electric if it has the hookups, you can still run them through pedals and attach them to amplifiers if you need to. I would probably pick one up before an electric.
Are you planning to play with other people or are hoping to show off a little when you get good? I practiced on an electric guitar for awhile before I got an amp and could hear myself just fine but it wasn't nearly loud enough to perform for people.

alice in chains, atreyu, black sabbath, breaking benjamin, buck cherry, bullet for my valentine, coheed and cambria, dio, disturbed, egypt central, entwine, escape the fate, evans blue, godsmack, hawthorne heights, hinder, iron maiden, killswitch engage, metallica, motley crue, my chemical romance, new found glory, ozzy, papa roach, seehter, shinedown and sixx am (yes i just wen through my itunes and picked out some of my favorites)
the only differences i could really find were pickups, the wood the body is made out of and the fretboard but since it will be my 2nd guitar (1st electric) i don't really know much about it
and i chose ibanez because i love the necks
no shop near me has these models

I'd recommend the Ibanez RG2EX1 guitar, based on your music choices. Both are good guitars, but the RG2EX1 offers a lot more room for playing around with tone, which is important if you want to be able to sound like the original guitar tracks.
Guitar Strings Medium I have played with "medium" guage acoustic guitar strings, do people actually play with "heavy" guage strings?
( i hated playing with Medium Guage strings, as they REALLY hurt to play on. They ultimately didnt help me or my guitar sound better, so i reverted back to LIGHT....do people actually use HEAVY guages? why?

What type of acoustic guitar strings should I buy?
I have an ok acoustic guitar but it needs new strings. I like playing music by artists like John Mayer and Jack Johnson. I know their are different types of acoustic strings, but what type of strings would be the best for this type of music? I'm pretty good at guitar.
I know their are light, medium, and heavy gauge, and steel and nylon strings.
Well generally speaking, lighter gauge strings are easier to play because they have less tension when tuned to pitch. On the other hand heavier gauges will have a better tone quality. As a general rule you could say ''the bigger the string the bigger the tone''. If you have a regular acoustic guitar then you don't want nylon strings. They are meant for classical and folk style guitars. It's really just a matter of personal preference when it comes to guitar strings. I use D'Addario strings on all of my guitars , 12 - 54 on the acoustics and 10 - 46 on the electrics. I've never had a problem with any of their strings.

Yes the strings in your link will be okay. All six strings are nylon core. The 3 "steel" strings are actually metal wound around the nylon core. With a classical guitar, it's essential that you buy nylon strings because the instrument isn't designed to withstand the extra tension from steel strings.
If your friend is into acoustic rock, she'll eventually want to buy a steel stringed guitar, but the classical one is fine to learn on. It is tuned and played the same way as a steel string, it just has different tone. The nylon strings will be easier on her fingers than steel strings too.

Elixir Electric Guitar Strings Was I given a wrong GUITAR string?
I bought a set of Elixir Electric Guitar Strings, 12 gauge, nanowebs and the G-string is a wound string. The string itself has a gauge of .024, but it's wound. Is this right? I don't think I've got nanowebs before. So...should I continue, and put it on?
