Diamond is the hardest naturally formed mineral found on earth. It is used not only for making expensive and beautiful jewelry but also for making drilling equipments. Since diamonds are very hard, they are ideal for making cutting and grinding equipments. Diamonds can be used to cut, drill, grind and polish. Thus it is greatly used in various industrial applications. Some of the common equipments used are the diamond tipped drill bit and the saw blades. Diamond powder is used as an abrasive in industries. The diamonds used for these purposes are of lesser quality and are called ‘bort’. Thus, there are two grades of diamonds - the gem grade diamond and the industrial grade diamond. The industrial grade diamonds should be hard and have heat conductivity.
The demand for diamonds is greater than the supply, so the diamond drill is very expensive. Although, there are a number of types of drills, the diamond drill is a very essential piece of equipment in an industry that needs to do a lot of drilling. The diamond drill is actually a drill with the diamond drill bit attached to the end of hollow drill rods. The diamonds used are fine to micro fine diamonds. To keep the sharpness and hardness of the diamond drill, it is necessary to give it sufficient lubrication and cooling. The holes made are very clean and giving the best results. The drilling has to be done slowly so that the life of the drill bits can be extended for a longer period of time. Drilling is a laborious process. It is also a tiring and demanding task and uses up a lot of physical energy. But, it needs to be done.
The diamonds drills can make holes in any type of substance, right from a soft one to a hard one. It includes bricks, metals, concrete and any other material without giving out much noise. The holes can be made quickly without any vibrations and much effort, since the drill is made of hard diamond. The diamond drilling equipments are long lasting and penetrate fast to drill a hole.
The diamond drilling equipments are used in all kinds of industrial applications. We are generally not aware of it many uses. They are used by the construction industry for making holes in bricks, concrete and iron. It is used in the mining industry to drill holes at places where there are mines. Wherever holes have to be made for placing cables, where anchoring bolts have to be placed and also where load carrying machines have to be installed, the diamond drilling equipments are used.
There are two types of drilling techniques. The dry drilling technique is used when concrete, hard surfaces, pavements, bricks or any hard surface has to be drilled. The wet drilling technique is used when the place that has to be drilled is fully under water.
The diamond drilling equipments are of different types. Synthetic diamonds are used in the impregnated bit’s matrix series. The matrix layer has the diamonds in a powdered metal bond. They have a long life and also penetrate fast. They are used in many forms of drilling. Surface set diamond bits have a single natural diamond layer. They have a hard matrix compound on the face of the bit. They are used while drilling soft to medium hard surfaces.
Diamond reaming shell has natural or synthetic diamonds. It is used to attach the drill bit to the core barrel. The main work of the reaming shell to make a hole that is exact in diameter for the core barrel to go through, having enough space for a new drill bit, when the old one has to be changed. Long diamond reaming shells are also available for drilling purposes.
Diamond core bits are thing walled core bits that are used in a large number of applications. They are used to drill holes in are concrete, glass, ceramics and also in all kinds of pipes used in electricity, drainage etc. Wet cut drill core bits and dry cut drill core bits are available for various purposes.
Synthetic diamond polycrystalline is also used in making drilling equipments. They are used in making drill bits, reaming shells, saw blades etc. Polycrystalline diamond pads or cutters (PDC) are placed in rows of polycrystalline diamonds kept on tungsten carbide substrate on the bit face, to drill holes in areas that are too sticky or soft. You have PDC core bits and PDC drill bits which are cost effective and very useful in drilling and cutting activities.
The diamond drilling equipments are no doubt expensive, but they are very effective in making clean holes that are necessary for all construction, mining and power, drainage, gas lines purposes. We should check out the various companies that manufacture these equipments, obtain details about the equipments and the price and then order the equipment that we need. The internet would be the best place to gather all the information.
Bass Strings Can I put Bass strings on my electric Guitar?
I have a Fender Starcaster [electric] and am thinking about playing bass and instead of paying for another instrument i want to know if i could just remove 4 of the current strings and put bass strings on it. Would this be a bad idea?
[Also, the knobs other that the volume don't seem to affect the sound much at all. Should they?]
Thanks.
Hello! The simple answer is yes, it is a bad idea; not only would you be unable to properly tune the strings (due to incompatible scale lengths), the larger diameters will not even fit into your machine tuners. As far as the tone knobs, the middle tone knob controls the treble cut (more bass, less treble) for only the neck pickup, and the bottom tone knob (nearest the output jack) controls the treble cut for just the middle pickup. There is no tone control for the bridge pickup. Hope this helps. Best regards, Dana
The bass guitar is a bass stringed instrument played with the fingers either by plucking, slapping, popping, or tapping or using a pick. The bass is similar in appearance and construction like an electric guitar, but with a larger body, a longer neck and scale length, and usually four strings tuned, one octave lower in pitch than the four lower strings of a guitar.
Materials used for making a bass guitar
The bodies of these special instruments are typically made of wood although other materials such as graphite have also been used. The most common type of wood used for the body is alder, for the neck is maple, and for the fret board is rosewood, though a wide variety of woods may be used to make the body.
Other regularly used woods include mahogany, maple, ash, and poplar for bodies, mahogany for necks, and ebony for fret boards. The choice of body material and shape of these guitars can have a significant impact on the timbre of the completed instrument as well as on aesthetic considerations. Other design options include finishes, such as lacquer, wax and oil along with flat and carved designs. Bass guitar necks, which are longer than regular electric guitar necks, are generally made of maple.
A brief history
In the 1930s, inventor Paul Tutmarc from Seattle, Washington, developed a guitar style electric bass instrument that was fretted and designed to be held and played horizontally. Unfortunately, Tutmarc inventions never caught the public imagination, and little further development of the instrument took place until the 1950s.
In the 1950s, Leo Fender developed the first mass produced electric bass. In the 1950s and 1960s, the term Fender bass was widely used to describe the bass guitars, because of early popularity of Fender in the market for mass produced bass guitars.
Different components of the bass guitar
Thi skind of guitar uses various components to produce music. Some of these components are strings and its tuning, fret or fretless bass, pickups, amplification and effects.
Frets and fretless bass
Frets are a raised metal strips inserted into the fingerboard that extend across the full width of the neck. On a fretted bass, the frets divide the fingerboard into semitone divisions. The original Fender basses had 20 frets. Fretless basses have a distinct sound, because the absence of frets means that the strings must be pressed down directly onto the wood of the fingerboard.
Strings and tuning
The standard design for the bass guitar has four strings, tuned E, A, D and G, with the original frequency of the E string set at about 41 Hz, making the tuning of all four strings the same as that of the double bass. This tuning is also the same as the standard tuning on the lower four strings on a 6 string guitar, only an octave lower.
Pickups
Most electric basses use magnetic pickups. The vibrations of the instrument metal strings within the magnetic field of the permanent magnets in magnetic pickups produce small variations in the magnetic flux threading the coils of the pickups.
Amplification and effects
The electric bass is always connected to an amplifier for live performances. Electric bass guitarists use either a combo amplifier, which combines an amplifier and a speaker in a single cabinet, or an amplifier and a separate speaker cabinet.

What are electric guitar (Locking) tuner's and how do they work?
I was wondering about Locking guitar tuner's and are they worth to have and do they affect on how easy it is to tune the guitar ?
How do they work and are they easy to use ?
Note: I want to get a guitar with (Schecter locking tuner's) and should I get the model with locking tuner's or grover's ?
The locking part of a locking tuner is referring to how the string is secured to the tuning post. It does not mean locking the rotation of the tuner.
The advantage of locking tuners is that you can restring them very quickly. They're also nice if you have a tremolo bridge on the guitar, as they improve string stability.
With a normal tuner, you're going to need to get 2 to 3 wraps of the string around the post to hold the string stable. Less than that, and the string can come loose. If you put more turns on the post to the point that the string is winding back over itself, you've got all kinds of chances for the string to slip out of tune.
Which would I get? If the turn ratios are the same on them, then I'd probably get the locking tuners. But, if the grovers had a higher ratio, I'd get them instead. Just personal preference.
Sperzel was the first company to come up with the locking tuner idea. Google them to see a what they do.
Fender Bass Guitar Strings what type of bass guitar has "California" written on the head?
A bass guitar that was a present a few years ago, has the word "California" written in black ingraved letters on the head of it. The rest of the bass has 4 strings and looks like a classic fender bass with black body and has a white pick up guard. I don't know much about the different types of basses so if you can tell me that would be awesome. Also, if you know how much this type of bass goes for, that would cool too
thanks in advance
I think you may be talking about a Sandberg California Bass. I'm not sure which one you are referring to exactly (as you left out some details like what type of pickups you meant by "classic Fender bass"). I think it's either one of these: http://www.sandberg-guitars.de/basscat-overview/calj-series or one of http://www.sandberg-guitars.de/basscat-overview/calp-series. Found primarily in Europe, these basses normally cost around 1200-1300 euros, or $1500ish American.
How to Setup a Fender Bass : How to Adjust Pickup Height on a Bass Guitar
Switching from Guitar to Bass, any advice?
Alright so i have been playing an acoustic guitar for almost 3 months and i actually never wanted to be a guitarist, my dad wanted me to, i really wanted to be a bassist. Its not that i dont like guitar, just that i love everything about bass! A few questions though....
Is it hard to switch from guitar to bass?
Some people say its boring to play bass, is it really?
These are my choices for possible basses, mind you i have a budget http://www.guitarcenter.com/Squier-by-Fender-Standard-Jazz-Bass-512733-i1166295.gc or http://www.guitarcenter.com/Ibanez-GSR200FM-4-String-Bass-Guitar-103036489-i1148510.gc or http://www.guitarcenter.com/Squier-by-Fender-Standard-Jazz-Bass-102581394-i1146516.gc
last one is optional to answer, i just want to know if there is anything i should look out for with buying one of these, the first one is number 1 in line for me.
1. Good for you, often it's hard to find a bassist, and as a bassist, I'm bombarded by requests to be in people's bands.
2. No, it's really not that hard, you can even use a pick on bass if you want, even though people say you should only use your fingers. No, it's not boring, though it can be, depending on what you play. Playing funk, or some more bass-oriented metal is not boring at all. Try listening to Primus, or Tool.
3. I always make it a point to recommend the Ibanez over the Squiers, but good choice with the Squiers. Any of them are good for starters, but I still recommend the Ibanez, that way you can play it for a long time, rather than having to upgrade to a Fender from the Squier later.
4. With Squiers, you have to look out for crappy input jacks and pickups, and the action (distance from strings to fretboard) will be high when you get it. You can use the little L shaped keys you get with it (the small one, not the big one) to fix that though. With the Ibanez, look out for plastic nuts and stripped input jacks. Also, occasionally the tuners will fall out.
