Pedal Lap Steel Which GUITARIST or STEEL GUITARIST has the most unique playing style or posture and why?
I think
Stanley Jordan - He plays only with tapping and plays like a piano player.
Django Reinhart - Jazz legend from the 30s and 40s. He only had the use of 2 fretting fingers but went on to become one of the top 3 jazz guitarists of all time. (The other 2 fingers were paralyzed.)
Jeff Healey - He is blind and plays slide guitar brilliantly on his lap like a pedal steel.
Robert Randolph - He plays a pedal steel in an R&B/funk format but sounds like Duane Allman.
Junior Brown - Another pedal steel player who is hard to describe. He's mostly in the country genre.
It has to be Reggie Wooten, brother of a famous bass player
Wictor Wooten. He's playing his strat like a bass
(slap & tappings).
He actually learned his younger brother Wictor to play bass
when Wictor was 3 years old!!!!!!!!!!!!
And off course - respect to Jimi Hendrix (you can hear him in EVERY rock song, he's the GREATEST!!!
David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) is unreal. His solos are not just improvisations, he makes most magical melodies!!!

How can you get a 'lap steel guitar' sound with regular guitar?
An example of this sound that I can at least think of is some country music and in modern music the songs She'll Come Back to Me, and Mexico, both by Cake.
I was looking for something simple option like a Effects Pedal I can attach to my guitar, or some other option thats doesnt involve a guitar that you play in your lap

You need a Fender Tele with a "B-Bender". That's the best way without getting a lap steel. A good slide will also help a little. I prefer the steel slides to glass, but it's a personal preference.
Musician's Friend has some cheap beginner lap steels, I don't know how good they are, but they had one for like $80.
I want the names of good thrillers. They can be adventure or spy novels, sci-fi, anything but thrillers.
I've read all Alistair MacLean, Tom Clancy, Ken Follett, Jeffery Archer, John Grisham, Sidney Sheldon, Dan Brown, Robert Ludlum, Matthew Reilly, Steve Berry , Raymond Khoury and Sam Bourne.
I do not like Dean Koontz, Lames Hadley Chase Nora Roberts and Danielle Steel.
Basically, I've read the popular writers, I wanted to know a few other good ones.You know, the ones where you are up all night turning page after page....

I love Dan Brown so much he was my favorite authot 2 months ago (Loved Digital Fortress). I also detest Nora Roberts.. ug. Im so glad your asking for THRILLERS everyone on here is like "Give me a book to read like twighlight". Ok heres my favroite thrillers...
1) Prey by Michael Crichton- If you like Dan Brown, you'll love Michael Creytone (He created that show ER). Prey is about an experiment gone wrong, and through a chain of events scientest create a man eating swarm of bugs... its super intense.
2) Carrie by Steven King- I'm sure you've heard of this book before, its short and itense. Its about a girl whos telekinetic, and is harrased in highschool. Eventually she cracks and destroys here Mom, Teachers and EVERYONE who ever teased here. Steven King is a fantastic if you like Carrie try Pet Symetery, Misery, and The Mist.
3) And then there were none by Agatha Kristie- 12 people are all invited to a mysterious island, they all have one thing in common... they've all murdered someone. Slowly, 1 by 1 they die... wats going on?!?
4) Burned- This book is about a mormon girl with an abusive family who is sent to live with here aunt for the summer. I'm sure your thinking "This doesn't sound like a thriller". But it is, its so intense (Drugs, Sex, Violence) and impossible to stop reading. Not to mention a fantastic life lesson.. i really think everoyone should read this book. Also this author has wrote other books and there good as well.

The following describes some common canine intestinal problems seen occasionally in all dogs:
Gastric Torsion, Dilation, and Bloat: This health problem is usually found in large and heavy breeds and occasionally in big crossbred dogs. There are several possibilities as to the cause regarding this often-fatal condition.
Allowing your dog to exercise right after a hearty meal is a factor that boosts gastric torsion. Another is the habit of feeding the large canine on the floor or ground.
Approximately two to six hours after eating, an affected dog's stomach expands with gas and twists on its long axis. This distortion keeps the gas from getting out by burping. The dog repeatedly tries to throw up, but is not able to do so and spits thick saliva in small amounts. A veterinarian may attempt to pass a stomach tube to relieve the stomach gas, however due to the twist, those attempts are oftentimes unsuccessful.
Bloating causes sharp stomach pains, which is followed by shock. Quick surgery might spare the pet, but regrettably by the time the dog arrives at a veterinary hospital, it may be suffering from advanced toxemia (toxic substances in the blood) and attempts to save the pet might be too late.
There are a number of steps you can take that will help keep this condition from developing. Feed your dog when his physical activity is minimal. Elevate his food bowl by setting it on a porch step, which will minimize swallowing air. Feed frequent, small meals or give him free-choice feeding. Whenever you find it necessary to feed a large meal, make certain he stays quiet for an hour or so afterward. Don't let him overindulge with water following a meal. Most importantly, cut back his activity after any meal.
Esophagitis, Enteritis, Gastritis, and Colitis: The esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, and rectum are confluent and together are known as the gastrointestinal tract or simply the gut. The suffix - itis means inflammation of; therefore, esophagitis is an inflammation of the esophagus, gastritis is an inflammation of the stomach, enteritis is an inflammation of the large intestine or the lower bowel. These gut irritations are usually accompanied by a degree of enteritis, and enteritis generally has some colitis linked with it. In other words, the single word diagnoses are seldom technically right.
When your vet says that your dog is ailing from gastroenteritis, the cause of the gut irritation is more crucial than the diagnostic term implemented. If your dog displays watery diarrhea, throwing up, nausea, depression, and lack of normal appetite, we may think of food or chemical poisoning, however gastroenteritis may be caused by eating indigestible material such as steel wool pot scrubber. The same signs can be an indication of cancer of the liver. It's important to remember that a gut irritation is a signal that might mean a dangerous, even life-threatening condition and should never be taken lightly.
Constipation: Another type of gut problem is blockage or impaction. Most commonly seen in older dogs, constipation is oftentimes caused by bone chips and pieces. Your dog finds a nice juicy bone. He literally devours the mouth-watering morsel over the next hour, and swallows every bite. Bone pieces are not very digestible, thus, when these small chips reach the rectum where fluid is extracted from the waste, the result is a concrete block in the lower bowel. The same result might be seen when a dog licks and swallows wads of its hair.
As blockage begins to build up, the dog's gut fills with food and waste that can not escape, and he loses his appetite and becomes lethargic (sluggish). Diagnosis is generally made by a vet's palpation (examine by touch) of the solid mass in the dog's lower bowel. Treatment is normally performed by enemas, which will provide liquids to the mass, break it up, and enable the dog to pass the impaction.
Pseudocoprostasis or False Constipation: This condition is more common to longhaired dogs of all ages, and normally is the result of soft stools and grooming negligence. It happens when the long hair in the area of the anus isn't routinely trimmed back or combed and becomes matted with fecal matter. The fecal matting acts as a blockage of the gut, and signs similar to true constipation are seen.
Diagnosis is simple and can usually be made from across the room by the odor. Treatment is even simpler, although not very pleasant to do. The long hair and fecal matting needs to be carefully cut away to expose the skin surrounding the anul opening.

Bronze Strings Extra What are some good guitar strings?
I just got some new strings and they are extra light. They keep breaking and I was wondering would a pair of medium phosfer bronze break as easily as extra light. Or should i get some light strings.And what are some good brands. I do some detuning and I have herd that the thicker the Gauge the brighter the sound. Is that true?
Dude, seriously...you need to give more details on these breaking strings. I highly doubt that the strings are the problem. You may be doing something wrong technique wise or you may have a nut/bridge issue.

Being Green, Gardening and Why I Blame my Kid
So often you hear "Its all my parents fault" occasionally I even hear m mother taking the blame for my occasionally caustic personality thought I'm fairly certain I've never blamed her for my questionable vocabulary and sharp tongue. Not that she' shy by any means just a little more diplomatic.
In this case I'm blaming my kid instead of the other way around. It all started in the spring while the youngest was I the second grade. She came home all wound up about needing to save the earth. In fairness I've been a pretty green guy for years. I've used Organic lawn care products long before I most people had the environment as top of mind. Speaking of organic I've bought organic when its available for the past decade and local all my life. What I wouldn't say is that by any means am I an environmentalist. In fact while I've claimed to be a lot of things an environmentalist has never been one of them. Buying green due to a fear of cancer and a shorter life, buying local because I liked the farmers market, the fresher products and the people selling me my veggies. In both cases I did the right thing by accident and not as a conscious act.
So anyway here she comes bouncing along at nine years old excited, full of great ideas and decked out in her often present pig tails. First she tells me how much wood is wasted and placed in land fills rather than being used for other projects or recycles. I don't question the percentage or amount she quote to me like gospel. All I say is "oh really" before she launches in to more statistical evidence provided by a well meaning science teacher. OK fine she's been heard I get it and leave the 2x4's and 1x3's from the recently disassembled dog cage in the basement and I built poorly constructed, unattractive but completely functional trellis complete with reused untangled kite string for the beans and climbing flowers to crawl up. My mothers father would have been so proud it looked like a contraption he would have built out of whatever was laying around. In his case not because he was an environmentalist or because he had a daughter or granddaughter telling him to "recycle" but because it was there and paid for and there was no reason to get rid of perfectly good wood.
So we recycled the nail laden and hole filled boards into our new creation. Sure money was save because I fully planned to go out and buy lattice or trellis for the plants this year. She proudly helped me finish the building by pound the last nails in, tying off the last strings and the running inside to get her mother to see our monstrosities that were placed in a front garden behind a garden statue that was a gift from her side of the family. So my wife came out, smiled at her reassuringly since she was so proud of the cooked ladder looking things right before asking how quickly the pants would grow to cover them.
I did what any wise husband would shrugged and guessed "June maybe July" being very no committal.
She smiled and told our daughter what a great idea it was and then shot me a look questioning my abilities as a carpenter. Which while I dabble at things is yet another thing I've never claimed to be. The beans and flowers have done particularly well. We'll just chalk it up to a little extra rain and good karma.
So its fall and being one to never waste soil I practice a nontraditional yet completely natural way of composting. Now sure I could buy one of those nifty composting bins to help the process. My mother and father have several of them. Frankly I'm too cheap for that. Instead cutting the plants as they brown put them in pile with old potting soil in an un-planted spot in a garden. Preferably but not necessarily obscured by a large stone statue, rock or large patch of plants where it can break down "naturally".
So when the fall harvest of sunflowers began we took the heads less the seeds and put them in a spot next to the herb garden. It was the same place I unceremoniously put the manure laden soil mixture from my previous two years indoor lettuce planting. To the left of the bronze garden faerie my the chocolate bell pepper plants (yes I know they aren't herbs) by the basil, behind the lemon thyme.
And so it sat as as we cut the long green leafy stalks into foot long lengths to they'd fit and more importantly not draw too much attention. Chatting back and forth with out the distraction of TV, video games or computers, quiet quality uninterrupted time. That's where the lesson accidentally came in more talk about letting plants go to see so we could use those seeds to create new plants for next year. Talk about how such things work in nature and why it works that way. And the finally about how reusing parts of the old plants helps keep the soil rich. See it isn't about making a political statement, it doesn't come from a deep need to change the world. It comes from nothing more than good old fashioned horse sense and helping to do what nature does in its own way to improve your own gardening results.
Sure there are missteps along the way like unattractive structures behind the wife's favorite garden statue. Or like when the mother in law comes over and grumbles at me before the sun comes up about why in the world are my coffee grounds wets and weak. The reason being is she used the can labeled "GROUNDS" meaning used coffee that once its sweet nectar had been consumed served a better purpose in my pile of rotting vegetation, sprinkled on the lawn or as part of my cow manure and compost tea I make to water the occasional growing thing.
But in the end of it all sometimes a little youthful idealism, being a touch cheap, and acting like my old farmer grandfather intersects with lofty ideals without even trying and for this I blame my kid.
A few last words of advice. Mother in laws usually survive weak wet used coffee and even understand and forgive you on occasion. An upfront warning about how the plants might just completely cover the wife's favorite garden statue for 4 or 5 months if all the seeds take and grow like bad weeds might be warranted. And finally remember those informal compost piles you've been hiding through out the gardens well. Well the one out by the Fairy Statue and herbs I've got to tell you something about it the bad news is that the compost pile has taken on a new purpose quite accidentally. The soil from the lettuce planters well it's sort of sprouted with the all the other good stuff we put on top of it, a little rain and some nice cool nights. On the up side we're going to have a bumper crop of home grown mixed field greens this fall. Well that and it's all Elise's fault!
